How to Prep for Your Cosmetic Tattoo Appointment
Getting ready for a cosmetic tattoo appointment is more than just showing up—a little prep goes a long way in ensuring the best results and a smooth healing process. Whether you’re coming in for brows, lips, or eyeliner, here are some key things to do (and not do) in the days leading up to your appointment.
A Few Weeks Before Your Appointment
Avoid using skincare products that contain Vitamin C, Glycolic Acid, Alpha Hydroxy Acid, Beta Hydroxy Acid and Salicylic Acid in/or around the brow area two weeks prior to your appointment.
Avoid skin care products such as tretinoin, retinols or retinoids 4-6 weeks prior to your appointment.
A Few Days Before Your Appointment
Make sure you’re well-hydrated and eating balanced meals. Your skin will respond better to the tattooing process when your body is nourished.
Avoid blood thinners like aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, or vitamin E supplements (unless prescribed by your doctor) as they can increase bleeding and affect pigment retention.
If needed, only have 1 cup of coffee the day of your appointment.
No alcohol for at least 48 hours before your appointment. Both can thin the blood and make you more sensitive.
Avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, or chemical peels for at least a week. Sunburned or compromised skin cannot be tattooed.
Don’t schedule any facial treatments, waxing, or injections in the area being treated within a week of your service.
Reach out with any questions or concerns—we’re here to make sure you feel comfortable and informed before you arrive.
The Day Of Your Appointment
Arrive with clean skin, free of makeup, especially in the area to be tattooed.
Wear comfortable clothing and give yourself plenty of time so you don’t feel rushed.
Bring reference photos if you have a specific look in mind, or trust your artist to guide you based on your features and preferences.
Don’t come in if you're feeling unwell. It's best to reschedule so your body is in its best state for healing.
Don’t bring guests to your appointment unless previously approved—we want to keep the space calm and focused just for you.
Bonus Tip: Try to get a good night’s sleep before your appointment. The more rested and relaxed you are, the more comfortable the experience will be.
Preparing properly ensures your skin is in the best condition for tattooing and sets the stage for beautiful, long-lasting results. If you ever have questions about what to do (or avoid), don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
